I am a librarian at Wake Forest University, an Assistant Professor in the School of Information Studies at the University of Maryland College Park Associate University Librarian and Director of Digital Initiatives and Collaborative Services at the University of California, Berkeley.   My research focuses on the use and impact of information technology in educational, cultural memory and cultural heritage communities. I am particularly interested in the intersection of new technologies and information use and how we balance system design, information models and information systems to find, use and create new knowledge.

My research includes development of new tools to support learning and information engagement, study of communities of practice and information consumer/creators, and exploration of new information models, systems and standards that support information systems and information communities. The goal of my work is to remove barriers to access and use of information, foster equity in information and technology access and in doing so to empower people through technology engagement and literacy development. More information on my current projects is available under “Research.”
