Blue Ridge Ride 2009 – Day 1

On Sunday I began my round trip Blue Ridge ride.  I decided to do the BR in North Carolina only as that allowed me to shuttle myself around in my car (yes there is nothing sadder than a cyclist providing their own sag support).

I got a late start due to an impropmtu golf game with pops (who can turn that down) but decided to get 50 miles or so in on my first day.   I rode out of milepost 330 north to the state line just beyond Cumberland Knob.  Along the way I met up with a cyclist who had started at the southern edge and who was carrying their own camping gear.

My southern point was milepost 235 (Air Bellows Gap) and the view from the parkway there (and everywhere) today was beautiful.  Early afternoon rains cleared out the air increased visibility.

Later in the evening in order to add a few miles to the day I headed out from 257 southward to 267.   This increased my total mileage for Sunday to 57 miles (10% of the ride).  The plan for Monday is to ride north from 257 to 235 and back and then to add some mileage south of 267 (before a late afternoon golf game perhaps).
